Michael moved to New York in 1954 and was among the first to establish a studio in an artists’ cooperative in SoHo, Manhatten, legally establishing a working living place for artists in a manufacturing area. Working on large canvases between New York City and Italy he developed his mode of non-objective painting towards a personal form of abstract expressionism, producing his seminal works ‘Blue Space’ and the ‘Bridge Series’.
