London
In 1986 Michael moved back from New York to the UK and acquired a raw live/work space in the old Spratts Dog Biscuit factory in Limehouse, East London. This light studio on the canal enabled him to work freely on his much larger paintings and collages. Here he is able to ‘release the brake’ on the latent impulse to create 3-dimensionally. He extends beyond the restriction of the four sides of a canvas creating assemblage paintings and imposing wall constructions, and large-scale sculptures, all with textured opposites that create intellectual tension and spatial illusion.
